Take part in the international flash mob #iLOVErussian!

Russian language teachers from Australia have created a special project to promote Russian language learning.

The global flash mob project #iLOVErussian created by the Australian teachers of Russian language and began on Jan. 10 and will last until Feb. 21, International Mother Language Day.

To participate, prepare a short video of your child answering the question “ Why do you need the Russian language?” and upload it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #iLOVErussian and @LinguaKid hashtags. Here you can find an example.

The organizers of the flashmob will accept videos made by children in any country where Russian is not a state language.

According to Anastasia Astridge, one of the flash mob’s organizers, the event has several goals: “First, we need to motivate children to learn the Russian language, because nothing is so contagious as the example of one’s peers. The second, to show them and their parents that children actually speak in families where Russian is not the main language.”

According to Astridge, many parents who are native Russian speakers but do not live in Russia expect their children to speak Russian as well as they do. “But in fact, if children were born abroad or left Russia before they turn seven and/or live in an environment where Russian is used very little, their Russian will sound ‘foreign.’”

The results of the flash mob will be broadcast on Feb. 21 on the Linguakid language school Facebook page.
