From the beginning of November 2014 eBay users will be able to pay for goods using the Russian Qiwi payment service. The international Internet auction house is hoping to attract more buyers this way.

Until recently the Russian public had demonstrated a minimal interest in using PayPal, the main payment service used to pay for goods on eBay’s site. The company’s press office told RBTH that this can be explained by the low level of trust that Russian buyers have regarding online payments. According to Data Insight, in 2013 almost 70 percent of purchases in Russia, taking into consideration those completed through the Internet, were made in cash. Money can be added to the electronic Qiwi wallet with actual bills and coins, which is why the Visa Qiwi Wallet, says eBay, is just as convenient for customers to use as cash.

"For eBay in Russia this is an important move, demonstrating our company's aspiration to make online purchases for Russians more convenient and secure," says eBay Russia General Director Vladimir Dolgov.

The service will be accessible for all users that have a Russian shipping address. This is not Qiwi's first successful integration with a foreign trade platform. Qiwi was previously integrated with the Chinese Aliexpress Internet store.
